Oh 2017, where on earth did you go?!
This year was nothing short of amazing and without getting too mushy-gushy on you, (Brett, stop rolling your eyes :)) between the wedding and the endless projects, we’ve never been more thankful for the amazing family and friends that are in our corner.
As we think about what’s on our list for 2018, I wanted to take a quick moment and look back at the five big things that took up most of our time this past year.
We made it official on August 26, 2017. A little rain didn’t stop our fun; it was a beautiful day filled with so much love and celebration!
We kicked off 2017 with the guest bathroom renovation and planned to have it done in a month.
And then Brett was called away for work and one month turned into four.
Let me tell you, the final reveal was worth the wait. I absolutely adore the cement countertop that sits above Brett’s first big furniture build – a beautiful, custom vanity.
Up next was the laundry room. Again, we may have underestimated the time it would take to complete.
Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that we also decided it would be great to simultaneously build the garage foundation while planning for a wedding at the end of the summer.
But again, it was worth the wait. The laundry tub is even better in person and the giant window on the north wall makes the entire room so bright and cheerful.
We broke ground on the garage the middle of July and spent the next four weeks pouring cement and laying 500+ cement blocks for the foundation. As shitty as the timing was and the fact that we were working nonstop for the month leading up to the wedding, it is so nice to have this done so we can hit the ground running this spring.
Please excuse the snow – I know it’s hard to see but the main slab of cement is like walking on ice and nearly impossible to shovel without breaking an ankle 🙂
We took a little pause to recover from the chaos of the wedding and the garage building, but picked up again in October for the One Room Challenge (ORC) to tackle one of the guest bedrooms.
Finishing up this room was an absolutely joy and made me even more anxious to get the other one done.
The biggest surprise in this room was how well the plywood floors turned out – something we may consider doing in the other guest bedroom. My favorite feature is the plant shelf above the bed; even two months later, those babies are still alive!
It was a project-packed year, but I’d be lying if I said we didn’t have even more on our list for 2018. Check back in January for what we’re planning!
We want to wish you a very Happy New Year and hope 2018 is your best year yet!
All our best,
