One Room Challenge Week Six: The Final Reveal

Home Decor· One Room Challenge· Renovations· Room Reveal· The Entryway

10 Nov

It was a little more than two months ago when I first uttered the words ‘One Room Challenge’ to Brett. We were sitting down for dinner and I casually mentioned that I wanted to join in on this challenge and told him I thought we could do the entryway.

Apparently, the only word he heard was ‘challenge’ and he asks, “Oh cool, what do you get if you win?”

“No, it’s not like a competition challenge, it’s just this home décor challenge where bloggers renovate a space in six weeks.”

“So you don’t win anything?”

“Well… no, I guess not.”

“Huh….”

So I tell him again what I think might be fun to try in the entryway and he slowly starts coming around to the idea.

Where We Started

Here’s the before.

Since we’re in the process of gutting our entire home, it looks pretty sad and ‘blah.’

We wanted to add built-ins, trim to the door and window, a barn wood plank wall and decide on a paint color.

Where We Are Now

We had a few hiccups along the way, but we checked off all the items on the list!

Brett asked a stranger if we could take some of their barn wood from their collapsing barn.

After a few friendly discussions, we came to an agreement on a paint color for the walls.

We added trim to the door and the window.

Even though we had absolutely no clue what we were doing, we built built-ins around the entryway window.

What’s Left?

Right around week three, we started talking about the flooring in the entryway and threw around some ideas for what we wanted to do. A few days later we stumbled across some brick tile at Menards and decided that’s what we wanted to do for the flooring.

We knew we wouldn’t have a chance to finish before the end of the challenge, but we decided that we want to get it done before we move onto anything else. We’re both ready to see a project all the way through and have at least one area in the house that is 100 percent completed. What a concept, huh?! 🙂

So here we are, the final week of our first One Room Challenge. It’s bittersweet because this has been hard, but also really fun. We’ve put all our efforts into this one space, tackled projects that we’ve never done before and worked our butts off to get this done. And even though there isn’t an “official” winner, I think we wound up with a pretty darn good prize.

I’d say you have come along way with it. Entry ways are my biggest struggles (owning or renting). I would love to customize mine the way I want it but oh well!! Anyway, you have made progress and got the built-ins done and now you could move on to the floors. I love an organized entryway and that is what yours says!!

Oh thank you so much, Zan! I agree, entryways are a struggle – kind of an awkward space but also the first impression people usually have of the home. No pressure or anything, right? 🙂

Brick floors! I only wish. You’re so right… “this {challenge} has been hard, but also really fun”. YES it has. But the “prize” is great & just look how far y’all have come! 2 thumbs up!
