I know there’s this unwritten rule that summer is pretty much on the downturn after July 4. However, I am just getting around to putting out the summer decor and I like to break the rules every now and then. 🙂
First things, first, huge shoutout to Amy at My Life From Home for hosting this summer home tour series again! If you’re looking for even more summer bedroom ideas, scroll to the bottom.
I mentioned this early in the week on our Instagram but I have not been on my a-game when it comes to decorating the house for the summer. It’s mid-July and I am just getting around to decorating for the season. But, better late than never, huh?
This week, we’re showing off the guest bedroom. Which, over the past few weeks with no air conditioning, has turned into our interim-bedroom. Our master doesn’t have a fan and can get to temperatures rivaling that of the surface of the sun.
So, we’ve stayed cool the past few weeks by creating an in-home wind tunnel. We have the overhead fan, an oscillating stand-up fan and a small fan at the end of the bed. Pretty great, huh?
Since we’re all about staying cool, the duvet went out with all the spring decor. We stripped the bed down to a plain, gray sheet and an oversized gray blanket. It’s the perfect neutral combination to make the blue throw pillows really pop.
To bring in a little more interest to the plant shelf, I added in a few different styles of planters. We had some galvanized containers that were the perfect fit and a few wood containers that I picked up last year at Hobby Lobby.
The shelves above the seating area also got a little makeover. Instead of doing an entire overhaul of everything, I only switched out a few pieces. It’s a lot less overwhelming than starting from scratch and every time I go this route, I am amazed at how much one piece can change an entire vignette.
To top it all off, I added my favorite decor staple, regardless of the seasons: fresh flowers. You really can NEVER go wrong with throwing together a fresh mix of flowers; they add a homey touch to any space and they smell amazing. Win-win, in my book! Mox and Gunner think so, too 🙂
All our best,

Thank you for the sweet words, ladies! It’s been a rough couple of summers and definitely making us thankful for fans 😀

Boy I feel for you not having AC. We have been in the 90’s for weeks. You guest bedroom looks so comfy and inviting. I love the fresh flowers and the plants on the shelf just set the relaxed mood. Your open shelving over the sitting area looks great.
