It’s day 3 of the 31 Days of Mindfulness Challenge and today’s task is to play for at least 20 minutes. It’s nearly impossible to play for any length of time without living in the moment. Mindful activity is a great way to stay present and enjoy yourself at the same time!
Day Three: Playtime for at LEAST 20 minutes
“Your body cannot health without play. Your mind cannot health without laughter. Your soul cannot health without joy.”
– Catherine Rippenger Fenwick
When was the last time you stopped everything you were doing and played? The kind of play that requires movement. The play that elicits laughter that makes your cheeks hurt and stomach ache.
Our children have four legs and Moxie is just getting out of her puppy stage; meaning, she still wants to play. Throughout the day, she’ll grab a toy, run it over to me and continue to shove it in my face until I stop what I’m doing and play with her for a minute or tell her to go away enough times that she actually listens.
How many times have you told your spouse, friend, child, pet, etc. that you don’t have time to play right now? Or that you just need to do this one thing and then you’ll have time for them?
I’m almost embarrassed by how easily it is for me to make the excuse that I don’t have time. Since when is working more important than having fun? We do after all, only get one shot at this whole life thing.
I often find myself wondering when ‘The Switch’ happens – when did we become too busy for playing? When did we stop making up stories and playing tag and start prioritizing the to-do list that never seems to shrink?

Need an idea? Steal this one from us: I came home to this note from Brett. We proceeded to spend the next hour running around the house, shooting each other and giggling like children.
Playing looks different for everyone. The point of today’s challenge is to live in the now. Enjoy the moment (all 20+ minutes of it!). I’m willing to bet that it’s nearly impossible to feel the overwhelm when you’re playing tug-o-war with your pup, having a nerf gun fight with your spouse or playing house with your kiddos. 🙂

All our best,

Finding energy to play…that’s the hard part! I don’t have any problem wanting to play!
But I too have a little dog that loves to play & she begs for it every day. This weekend I have two little dogs as I’m dog sitting for my son & daughter-in-law so we’ll be taking some long walks for sure.
I also play every weekday with my 14 mo old grandson. And of course, I can never turn down that contagious smile & outrageous laugh.
