Mindfulness Challenge Day 19: What’s One Thing That’s Working Right Now?

It’s day 19 of the 31 Days of Mindfulness Challenge and today’s task is to think about one thing that is working right now.

Day 19: What is Working for You Right Now?

“When action is inspired, it never feels like effort.”
— Unknown

One of my goals in this challenge is to cut down on the overwhelm. Generally speaking, the new year is all about setting new goals, new accomplishments, new achievements. There’s usually a whole ‘lotta new and whole ‘lotta striving for things we do not yet have.

On one hand, I completely understand the importance of wanting to be better, do better, get better. Being stagnant and not moving forward can result in complacency and unhappiness. But, from a mindfulness perspective, when we start the new year wishing, wanting, hoping for things that we don’t yet have, we’re not necessarily living in the present moment.

I believe it IS possible to find the balance between working towards the best version of yourself without the overwhelm of what you don’t have AND being appreciative, accepting and grateful for where you are currently.

One of the ways to cut overwhelm on your goals is to ask yourself a simple question: what is working right now?

For me, one of my goals this year is to set (and maintain) clear working boundaries. I often find myself working late into the evenings, on the weekends… basically any chance I can get because I am fortunate enough to absolutely love my job. One ‘thing’ that’s working for me right now to help achieve this goal is to have clear to-do’s each day, so I am not wasting time wondering what I need to get done. As long as I keep doing that ONE thing, I know I am cutting back on the overwhelm; that even though my exact goal might not be happening right now, I am taking one step closer to achieving it.

It’s not that you can’t set grandiose goals and resolutions for yourself, it’s more about brining awareness to those goals so you’re not overwhelmed by where you want to go. When you focus on just one thing that’s working, you’re able to stay present and stop worrying about all the other outside noise.

If you’re joining in, let us know what one thing is working for you right now in the comments!

All our best,
