It’s day 14 of the 31 Days of Mindfulness Challenge and today’s task is to sit at the dinner table and eat with no distractions.
Day 14: No distractions while eating at the table

Growing up, we ate dinner as a family at the dinner table nearly every single night. It was before cell phones and tablets and Netflix, so there wasn’t too much in terms of technology that would distract us from spending that time together.
When Brett and I first moved into the house, we had most meals at the table, chatting about this or that. And then somewhere along the line we started eating in front of the television, while simultaneously catching up on our favorite Netflix show. It seemed like we were breaking the rules and we loved the spontaneity of it. Now, I’m not-so-happy to report that it’s the norm vs. the treat.
Whether you’re sitting in front of the TV or scrolling through Facebook on your phone or even reading a book, you’re not focusing on the one task at hand that should have your full attention: eating.
When was the last time you actually tasted what you were eating? Not quickly shovel it in to get to the next activity or mindlessly eat while reading the newspaper or spent more time bargaining with the kiddos instead of enjoying your own meal.
Today, we want you to try and enjoy a meal – actually taste every single bite – without distractions, and even better if you an do that at the table. The place your brain associates with food.
