It’s day 10 of the 31 Days of Mindfulness Challenge and today’s task is to take note of your thoughts throughout the day.

Day 10: Take Note of Your Thoughts Throughout the Day

“The greatest weapon against stress is our ability to choose one thought over another.”
— William James

If you haven’t figured it out by now, I have a slight obsession with podcasts. Since we live a solid 30+ minutes from anything, they’re the perfect way to pass the time while driving.

One of my favorites in the personal development realm is Brooke Castillo’s Life Coach School and I recently listened to an episode on thought creation. Click here if you’d like to check it out yourself. Her philosophy is that our thoughts create our feelings, our feelings create out actions and our actions create results. Basically, this means that whatever you think throughout the day will lead to whatever actions you will take. Which, of course, makes sense when we think about basic human needs – you think you’re thirsty (thought) and you take a drink of water (action).

Where this can tie into mindfulness is the idea that most of our thoughts throughout the day are automatic. Whether they’re responding to a basic human need or are being judgmental towards something or someone, it usually doesn’t take much effort to create and then think a thought.

As you may know by now, mindfulness is about being present and aware. Part of that awareness includes our own thought patterns. We touched on this a bit on day seven when the challenge was to think before you speak – the idea of becoming present with your words before you verbalize them.

Today, we’re building on that idea and taking note of everything that is being thought throughout the day – not just what you’re going to say before you speak. The idea being, when you notice where your mind is going, you’re forcing awareness and coming back to the present moment.

Happy thinking!

All our best,
