There is something about a kitchen island that just screams, “Gather around me, drink and be merry.” I don’t know what it is about them, but in my family, that is where everyone gravitates. At all our get-togethers, you can find random baked goods, snacks and drink mixers scattered across the surface and at least three or four people milling about.
They’re also a catch-all for those papers, keys, groceries and any other thing that doesn’t have a home. Or, maybe it does, but like people, those items seem to gravitate towards the island.
Which brings me to the topic for this week’s Friday Inspiration – The Kitchen Island. I’ve rounded up some amazing and unique islands to hopefully spur your creativity. Not only are these islands perfect for those family/friend gatherings, but they also offer a little rustic twist to the ever-popular all-white style. Enjoy!
Rustic Kitchen Island Roundup
Wooden farmhouse island with seating
I love the farmhouse-esque ‘X’ detailing on the side of the island and that it’s large enough to seat multiple people across the front. And, the dark wood is a lovely contrast against the white cabinets.

Breakfast nook and kitchen island combo
Look at the seating in this island, isn’t it just dreamy? I can close my eyes and image sipping my morning coffee and scarfing down delicious chocolate chip banana bread.

Modern farmhouse island with end seating
As a tall person, I appreciate the space under the island for seating and stretching out your legs. And, the detailing throughout plus the storage make this a modern dream.

Plank-style island with seating
The wood looks like it was just plucked from an old barn – it’s absolutely filled with rustic charm. I love the simplicity and how well it pairs with the mason jar light fixture.

Modern rustic island with plenty of storage
Although this one is definitely the most modern, the cement style counters and the weathered style wood (plus the abundance of storage) make this one a perfect addition to the list.

Distressed island with seating and storage
This reminds me of a potting bench, in the best way possible. I love the color, the butcher block counter and the nooks of storage underneath, besides the cabinets.

Barnwood island with cement
Another option that looks like the wood came right off a barn, which adds to the rustic charm. The iron bar stools paired with the cement counter are the perfect industrial accents.

Rustic wood island
Aside from the fact that the whole kitchen is a rustic haven, what I love most about the island is that it looks so solid and grandiose. Plus the old-century accents add a little historical charm.

Distressed and antique rustic island
Antiquing the paint is a great way to bring in rustic charm to an island. And, I love that this one has the beautiful side detailing to make it even more customized.

Butcher kitchen island
You really can’t go wrong with butcher block counters. They’re a great accent for a kitchen island and add a little rustic charm to any kitchen.

All our best,

I love the kitchen islands with the table and benches build in! They are all GORGEOUS!
I like that style too – it’s kind of a cross between a breakfast nook and an island. And yes, they’re all wonderful! 🙂
Too many choices, but I go for the rustic look which is what I think a house on a lake should look like. Only my opinion though.
Way too many choices! Who knew there were so many island styles to choose from? I agree that the style should be more rustic on a lake – we’ve got to maintain our north country style 🙂
