DIY Herb Garden Tutorial

white washing a terracotta planter

Up first, let’s whitewash the terracotta planters to add a little charm. All you need is this liming wax, a pair of latex gloves and a cloth or old t-shirt. Simply take a small scoop of the liming wax and wipe it around the planter. I wiped in the same direction around the entire planter but for a different look, you can wipe away in a circular motion.

To make the herb garden both indoor and outdoor friendly, I grabbed a galvanized tray and filled it halfway with rocks for proper draining.

For the planters, I filled each one nearly to the top with potting soil.

Then, I created a hole in the middle with a wood garden marker for the seed. To be on the safe side, I poured four or five seeds into each planter.

To finish, I gave each one a healthy dose of water and went on my way!

And of course, the best part is you can take your herb garden wherever you’d like. Since we get a fair amount of sun on the front porch, I think this is where these babies will live for awhile 🙂
