Up until recently, I was put on a strict ‘no hanging anything on the walls’ diet by Brett. It was in effect from the moment we walked through the doors of this house last February 22 until three weeks ago when we finished mudding and painting the entryway, kitchen and most of the living room.
I slowly started hanging a few pictures and frames here and there, but I knew the first BIG hanging project I wanted to tackle was the gallery wall. I’ve seen various tactics, tips and tutorials on the best way to hang the your things without putting a million holes in the wall.
I stumbled upon this post using wrapping paper to map out the wall prior to nailing the pictures up. Using this idea, I thought I’d share our version of how to hang a gallery wall, using brown paper bags.
The Supplies
Brown paper bags [if you’re anything like us. you have a million and one of these stuffed in a cupboard somewhere]
Scissors
Nails
Hammer
Gallery wall things
Tape
The Process
Step one. Lay out the gallery wall on the floor.
Step two. Cut out templates of each gallery wall piece using the brown paper bags.
Step three. Tape the paper templates to the wall. I wold recommend using painters tape; it won’t stick to the wall and/or peel the paint off.
Step four. Rearrange the template until you’re happy with how it looks. Mine was too far to the left the first time around, so I had to move everything over to the right to make it more centered on the wall.
Step five. Swap out the templates for the real deal. I started on the left and worked my way across the wall. I ended up changing around a few pictures (before they were hung), but 90 percent of the template stayed the same.
And that my friends is it – how to hang a gallery wall in five steps!
