This is the house. The reason for the blog. The house that is going to be what our lives will revolve around for the next two, three, five? years. When we decided on this house, we decided to commit ourselves to renovating the entire thing.
These pictures were taken the day we closed. They are the ‘before’ and they represent where we came from. This house has amazing bones and we are currently in the process of making it our own. It’s hard work, but it’s fun. It’s challenging, but so worth it. So, take a look at where we started and then hop on over to where we are now.
We knocked down that main wall separating the mother-in-law apartment and the ‘main’ house. We scraped the ceilings of the entire house to remove the popcorn. We repainted the kitchen cabinets. We knocked even more walls. And between all that chaos, we got engaged, made over some great thrift store finds and started planning a wedding.
It hasn’t even been a year, but we’ve made huge progress and we are so happy to share it with you. We hope you learn a few things along the way and enjoy going on this journey with us.

Here is the back of the house. Behind the picture is German Lake. It’s absolutely beautiful and one of the main reasons we bought the house.

The bedroom hallway, with the master bedroom straight, office to the right and another guest bathroom to the left.

The mudroom. The mother-in-law apartment is to the left, the ‘regular’ house is to the right.

This is the mother-in-law apartment. The mudroom entrance is to the right – you can kind of see the door in the right corner. The other entrance, which is now the main door we use, is behind.

The picture is taken standing in the kitchen, looking towards the mother-in-law apartment.
