If you’re here from Petite Haus, welcome new friends!
With Thanksgiving in the rearview mirror, it is full speed ahead to all things Christmas.
And this season, we’re fully embracing the rustic.
Maybe it’s the fabric that I picked up at JoAnns for 50% off or the endless amounts of burlap and twine that are now visible in the gues bedroom craft closet…
Whatever the reason, our entryway holiday decor is all about natural elements, lots of greenery and of course, buffalo check.
As I mentioned, I went a little crazy at JoAnns and picked up the most woodsy, rustic, ‘up-north’ styles I could find and went to town on making pillows. Lots and lots of pillows.
To bring in a more ‘Christmas-y’ feel, I added pops of silver and gold ornaments – from the dollar store, of course.
You all know we love our galvanized-anything around here, so of course that’s where the tree is calling home. Then I wrapped some holiday-themed twine around it as a garland and called it day.
On the other side of the table is some more galvanized goodness; a pitcher that houses some faux eucalyptus in front of a wooden ladder I picked up at a thrift store awhile back. quickly strung a few dollar store ornaments onto a piece of twine and wound it around the ladder. You can’t beat a DIY that takes two minutes 🙂
The basket they’re sitting atop actually has a Fourth of July graphic on the other side. Oh, the beauty of being able to flip things around.
My favorite DIY of this room are the three wreaths hanging above the entryway table.
The wreaths are from the dollar store [shocker, we know] and I whitewashed them so they weren’t SO neon green. I then tried my hand at making burlap bows and added a few jingle bells for some added charm.
On the entryway table, I made a buffalo check runner to match the one in the dining room [tablescape coming soon!] and what would a rustic-anything be without mason jars?
The final festive touch is the lights around the window. I first did this in the kitchen and fell in love.

All our best,
Brett and Kelly – I just love your rustic entry way! It is so beautiful and welcoming. I love the little wreaths and the garland!
Aww, thank you so much, Angelina!
What a super gorgeous look!!! I have embraced the rustic look (although this city girl swore she never would after her childhood of spending countless weekends at her grandparents’ farm!) and even gone there the past couple of years myself, but not with the gusto you have!!! You sewed your own pillows???!!??! Now THAT is enterprising and takes talent beyond what I possess!!! If I could sew, I’d be dangerous! 🙂 I love the idea with the ladder. I did something with ladders this year, too. They have so many possibilities!!! I love your use of the galvanized pieces, too. They fit right in nicely! I also love how you mixed all the patterns!!! So pretty!!! Enjoy the fruits of your labor!
Ha! I am the city girl in our relationship, too and Brett has made me go rustic. No looking back, now! Thank you so much for all the kind words and stopping by!
Nothing says rustic more than buffalo plaid. Your decor looks wonderful with the little touches of burlap ribbons and jars. It is fantastic how you used so many supplies from the dollar store. It makes the look so much more accessible for those of us on a budget.
Merry Christmas
Thank you, Leanna! We try to make our decor as frugal and budget-friendly as possible!
I love the rustic quality of your entryway! You did such a great job making it inviting and so festive! Really pretty!
Nancy from Slightly Coastal
Thank you so much, Nancy!
Your entryway is so inviting! My favorite part is the trio of wreaths on your pretty wood planked wall.
Thank you, Paula! The wood plank wall is my favorite project we’ve done on the house so far 🙂
I just love all the different patterns and cozy texture that you have in this space! It’s so pretty and perfect for winter! Love it!

I’m loving the rustic Christmas look. It’s so natural and organic looking and everything is paired together so beautifully. Excellent job.
Thank you so much, Sue! Natural and organic is exactly what we’re going for 🙂
Hi Brett and Kelly…I love all of the Buffalo check! You definitely scored at JoAnn’s! I don’t know how you found the time to make so many cushions on top of decorating 🙂
Thanks, Wanda! I actually made those several weeks back during their first sale – before all the real holiday craziness set it! 🙂
wow I love your mudroom and all your holiday details.
Thank you so much, Rhonda!
Kelly, your home looks gorgeous! I love the country rustic feeling and I love the cottage touches like the quilt on your sofa, your home as such a wonderful inviting feeling?
Thank you so much, Summer!!
So beautiful! I agree with you. The 3 wreaths are my favorite too!
Thanks, Lynn!
I am in love with your home. All the rustic details are perfect.
Oh Dru, thank you! You are too kind!
Kelly, I have to hand it to you, you did a great job using dollar store finds. If you hadn’t mentioned it, I’d never known. That’s not a back handed compliment either. Ha ha. Swear! Truly though, you’re on to something here… maybe a cool new series on decorating with Dollar store finds and fooling everyone? You perked my interest and you have a talent for making them look cozy and nice. ❤️
Amber and Kristin host an IG tag #madforplaiddecor which includes buffalo check and any range of patterns that would fall under that style including gingham check. I only know so much because I used to host that tag too.
Thank you for joining It’s A Wonderful House. Wishing you and your little family, pups included, a Merry Christmas.
