Front Porch Summer Decor

Home Decor· Summer· The Exterior· The Seasonal Home

2 Jul

I was going back in the archives and realized we never really showed off the new siding on the home. It was completed last fall, mid-November if I remember correctly.

The front porch itself was updated last summer when we redid the retaining wall – you can read all about that here.

Needless to say, I was pretty excited to get out and spruce everything up for summer. Yes to share it with you but also because there is just something about decorating that is very cathartic for me 🙂 Anyone else???

Anyways, I was searching for a few rugs for the kitchen and stumbled upon this red one on sale at Joss & Main. Of course I’m not one to pass up a good deal, so the rug became the starting off point for the front porch decor.

In the corner, what seems to be the staple is the galvanized tub filled with birch logs and the DIY house number sign. I added in a thrift store ladder and the DIY ‘home’ sign I made a few years ago – check out the tutorial here. I also added in a thrift store planter that’s currently home to a few random annuals.

What’s also a staple is the galvanized buckets turned into planters – I just love having them frame the stairs. It’s a quick and relatively easy way to add greenery and color.

Moving up to the front door. I don’t have a summer-specific wreath so I pulled together some faux greenery and made a makeshift summer-themed door hanger. I didn’t want to cut the long stems down, so I folded them in half and wrapped them in burlap ribbon.

I think I’ve mentioned this before but the chairs aren’t for outdoor use. They were given to me by a friend for free (her office was getting new furniture and getting rid of the old stuff – thanks, Hannah!) and while I love the wicker look, they’re starting to peel and warp. However, they work for now and you can’t be free-99.

To help bring in the red from the rug, I found a burlap Fourth of July sign in my ‘summer decor bin’. I added that to the cart, along with a thrift store washer tray and of course, a few more potted plants housing dahlias.

Complete side note: I’ve never done dahlia’s in a planter before and I’m pleasantly surprised at how well it’s going. While I love, love, love summer, I’m impatiently waiting for them all to bloom so I can have fresh flowers everywhere 😛

While it’s a little too hot to enjoy right now (hello humidity!) this porch has become a favorite morning spot of mine – it’s facing east and nothing beats sitting out here in the morning with a cup of coffee, watching the sun come up!

With that, have a safe and happy Fourth of July!

All our best,
