Friday Nesting 6/9

Friday Nesting· Lifestyle

9 Jun

Friday story time.

When we moved in, Neighbor Ron told us that our soft sand/dirt driveway lent itself to turtle egg heaven and every year snapping turles make a nest in our front yard.

Last year around this time, we [and by we, I mean Brett] picked up about 30 baby turtles one afternoon and transplanted them to the lakeshore so the dogs wouldn’t be tempted to start snacking.

So it came as no surprise when this past Tuesday I was getting ready to take the dogs out for a morning walk and saw two gigantic turtles digging in the sand, laying their eggs.

Unfortunately, I’m not the one I should have been worried about.

I harnessed the dogs like usual and slowly opened the door to go outside.

Gunner saw them first. Immediately his shackles went up and he started a low growl. Naturally, Moxie wasn’t going to be outdone and started barking, although she wasn’t quite sure what was going on. She just knew it was time to put her foot down.

Then she saw them and took off, making Gunner jump the gun too.

After a mix of barking and pulling and yelling [sorry neighbors], I finally corraled them back to the porch only to realize we lost not one, but two retractable leashes. Moxie’s stop button is completely useless and the plastic part of Gunner’s leash actually split in half and is staying connected by the force of my foot and sheer luck.

A small price to pay for being protected from those menacing turtles… You never know what could happen.

Friday inspiration.

Last year, we tried our hand at making over a filing cabinet with less-than-stellar results.

This DIY looks so simple and I absolutely LOVE the grungy, industrial look.

Full tutorial here.

I love hearing about different painting techniques and this one is no different.

I haven’t used milk paint before, but Repurpose and Upcycle suggests its a great way to achieve that beautiful chippy look.

Check out her reasoning and ‘after’ here.

This mantle makeover is so beautiful and I love the contrast between the black brick and white mantle.

Friday finds.

It’s been more than one year since we moved in and I still cannot find the right pillow combination for our living room couch and love seat. I’ve tried making my own on several different occasions and I haven’t gotten that ‘this is it‘ feeling.

I’ve been scouring the online stores and have come across several that I couldn’t not share with you. Because I can’t be the only one with this pillow dilemma 🙂
