Welcome!
For those of you joining us from the fall home tour, we’re so glad you’re stopping by and hope you’re enjoying the blog hop. But really, who wouldn’t?! It’s an entire week of fall decor ideas and inspiration to get you in the mood for decorating!
Since we’re now all friends, it’s time to welcome you into our home for a fall home tour – and in this house, the welcoming committee takes the form of two giant black labs wagging their tails, possibly knocking you over [it’s happened a time a two] and kissing you until you can’t breathe.
When you walk in the door, there will more than likely be the scent of a few candles burning, sing-along music playing in the background, a glass of wine thrust into your hand and instant welcoming chatter along the lines of, “We hope the drive wasn’t too bad,” and “We are so happy you could make it!”
You see, in this house, among the subfloor and drywall and half-torn carpet, we want you to feel instantly at home and comfortable.
And for us, nothing brings on that feeling more than fall.
Maybe it’s the natural elements that seem to be everywhere this time of year or the cooler weather that just calls for snuggling up on the couch with a good book and a thick blanket. Regardless, fall is all about the cozy and comfortable – two things we want our guests to feel as soon as they walk through the door.
In the entryway, we have a natural fiber jute rug, a woven basket and lots of greenery. Pumpkins are sprinkled around surfaces to add a little fall charm, along with an old window and blanket basket.
The living room couch and chairs are filled with neutral pillows and blankets calling for you to curl right up and relax. Don’t be alarmed if Gunner wants to share the couch with you…we promise he’s a good cuddler 🙂
Or maybe you’d rather cozy up on the lounge chair that we recently took back from my parents? I would probably ask you what you thought since there’s a long standing debate in our household about whether or not this chair is a good fit.
Side note: I think Brett is coming around, even if it’s white 😀
Then we’d talk about the bookcase I built from pallets with my brother-in-law and the open hutch Brett hung without any grumbling. I’d tell you that it’s now my favorite piece to style and nearly everything on it was found at thrift stores and local antique shops.
When we walk you over to the kitchen, we’ll probably point out the recently updated island color – when you visited us for the summer home tour, it was a mix between robin’s egg blue and turqouise. Now, it’s a deep green/gray that both Brett and I whole heartedly agree on.
Everyone would gather around the island, happily chatting about this and that, not really paying attention to the time. And if this was a typical gathering, I would most likely be burning pizza in the oven and we’d all erupt into even more laughter because Brett would launch into one of his many stories about being tortured from my lack of cooking skills.
And the night would slowly come to an end, with full stomachs and tender cheeks from laughing so much.
We’d walk you to the door, talk about how we haven’t laughed that hard since the summer home tour, engulf you in a giant bear hug…and invite you back to see how we decorated for Christmas. 🙂
