How to Make the Christmas Vacation Chalkboard Sign
Growing up, Christmas Vacation was the movie of choice the night before Christmas.
When we had to come up with a movie-related craft, Christmas Vacation immediately came to mind.
If you’ve seen the movie, you know it’s sprinkled with an endless amount of notable quotes, worthy of their own sign. However, in the interest of being appropriate and keeping things PG-ish rated, we went with a classic graphic depicting the Griswold Christms Tree search.
If you want to try this one out yourself, click here for the FREE Griswold Family Christmas Tree graphic.
Then, take a piece of chalk and cover the back of the graphic.
Flip over the piece of paper and place the chalk side down against the chalkboard piece of paper.
Trace over the entire graphic and when you remove the sheet of paper, it may look a little messy like the above picture.
Trace over the chalk with your permanent chalk marker.
Sidenote: Originally, I had a part on the bottom of the sign that said, “it’s all about the experience” but decided to remove it since it was too small to accurately trace (as you can see from the chicken scratch above :))
I ended up repainting the bottom to cover up the permanent chalkboard marker and called it good!

Great movie! Love your chalkboard sign!
Tania
That movie is a classic. I live next door to the “Griswald’s”, so no matter how many lights I put up, my house looks like a black hole next to it. I love the sign. I agree that it looks perfect without the small sentiment at the bottom
What a fun idea. I love this idea.
This is so cute, I love this movie
Thanks, Emily! It’s one of my favorites, too 🙂
One of my all time favorite Christmas movies, and I love your chalkboard sign! Sharing!
